Enjoy the Holiday Break
We cannot believe we have already come to the end of Term 3! Everyone deserves a two-week break after such a busy term. We were fortunate as a school community to celebrate on numerous occasions, and it was wonderful to hear the joy, excitement and genuine sense of belonging at these community events.
Congratulations to all our students for their hard work and commitment to their learning and extra-curricular activities throughout the term. We also deeply appreciate our fantastic staff for their continual care of our students and the engaging learning opportunities they have provided this term. We are so fortunate to have such dedicated and enthusiastic staff members.
Thank you also to our parents, grandparents and parishioners who continue to thoroughly support the school. Whether it be in the parish, the canteen, the community activities, marketing, fundraising or helping with the numerous events and opportunities given to our students, we are truly thankful for the selflessness of our volunteers for the benefit of all the students
We hope all our students, families and staff enjoy relaxing with their loved ones throughout this holiday break. We look forward to hearing about all the children's holiday adventures on their return on Monday 10th October.
Stay safe and take care.
Here is a recap of the term:
Dance Eisteddfod
Congratulations to our students and teachers on the wonderful performances at the Port Macquarie Dance Eisteddfod. It was wonderful to see our students on the big stage!
We are very proud of the hard work everyone has put in to gain some great results.
Stage 3: Highly Commended
Stage 2: Highly Commended
Stage 1: 3rd Place out of 13 performances!
Staff Development Day - Week 9 Term 4 2022
With the introduction of another Syllabus to be implemented in 2023, the Catholic Schools Office has granted staff an additional professional learning day to unpack this syllabus ready for implementation. This day must be taken late in Term 4 so St Joseph’s Laurieton has gazetted Monday 5th December as a Staff Development Day. We are working closely with Gowrie to see how we can support working families on this day. Gowrie notes they need a minimum of 10 enrolled children to open on this day and have confirmed that if they open, the theme will be: Minute to Win It Challenge Day! Please contact them directly if they can be of service.
Cyber Safety over the School Holidays
A reminder to families that school holidays can be a time when students' use of technology and social media platforms increases. Peer group issues can escalate more quickly in the online space. When students are on holiday, there may be less opportunity to resolve situations face-to-face, and minor problems can become a big deal. Some ideas to support your child over the two-week break are to monitor their online use, maintain healthy activities indoors and outdoors, and maybe even create a holiday routine. Enjoy the break!
Operation Christmas Child
Thank you to all the families who were able to donate a box or contribute to a box or postage for Operation Christmas Child. We had over 80 boxes donated and the Mini Vinnies Team raised over $300 at their bake sale on Wednesday.
The funds will be used for postage and topping up some boxes, with additional funds added to our Socktober fundraiser early next term.
Best wishes from the leadership team

Congratulations to Mrs Dominique Augey on all the wonderful work she has done for our school over many years. Dominique runs our school Band program through Little Musos but has advised she is retiring from this role. We are so appreciative of everything you have done for our school.
Little Muzos will advise plans for Band in Term 4. In the meantime, Ben Hardman will continue Guitar lessons on Mondays.
We are excited to announce the St Joseph’s $20 Boss Market Day will be Week 3, Friday the 28th of October! Stalls will be open from 1:15pm Friday afternoon until the 2:30 assembly, we would like to invite all parents and friends of our school community to attend and support the wonderful entrepreneurial work of our Year 5 and 6 students.
Students who have developed a successful business model and generated a profit from their initial $20 investment at the conclusion of our market day will be invited to attend the regional market day hosted by one of the schools in Port Macquarie. This day is planned for Thursday the 24th of November and will showcase both STEMMad and $20 Boss projects from schools within the Hastings area.
As lesson time for the $20 Boss program concludes this term, we encourage students to spend some time this holidays preparing their products, marketing and refining their ordering process in preparation for the upcoming market day. Students are also encouraged to take orders, offer services or sell ready made products to family and friends during the holiday break- if you already have an existing market, there is no need to wait for market day!
If you are unable to attend the market day, all student made websites and advertisements will be compiled into an ebook which will be posted in the school newsletter in Week 1, Term 4. Details on how to order from the ebook will also be included in this newsletter.
All profits from the $20 Boss program will be used to fund this program for our Year 5 and 6 students in 2023 with any remaining profits to be donated to the Mini Vinnies to be included in their fundraising efforts. The $20 Boss investment period will conclude after the regional market day on November 25th. If your child wishes to continue their business, they will retain any profits after this date.
Thank you for supporting this entrepreneurial program in 2022!
