Assumption of Mary
On Tuesday, Years 3-6 attended midday Mass with the Parish for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We are reminded of the profound mystery and grace associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary being taken up body and soul into heavenly glory. On this solemnity, celebrated every August 15th, we reflect on Mary's unique role in the history of salvation and her continued intercession for us in the communion of saints.
Farewell Aunty Lynda
Our beautiful Aunty Lynda has decided to take some leave for the remainder of the year. Aunty Lynda has been an asset in our school, working with our Indigenous children on their cultural goals, supporting Diji Kids, teaching culture in the classrooms, working with our teachers to organise and celebrate really special events such as NAIDOC and Reconciliation Week and implementing and promoting culture across our school. Aunty Lynda has also worked across the classrooms supporting children with Literacy and Numeracy and talking about indigenous perspectives in other curriculum areas. Aunty's role also included working closely with our indigenous families to support our students. We will miss Aunty Lynda's bubbly, vibrant personality in our school and she has told us that she will miss our families.
We wish Aunty Lynda all the best with her future endeavours and thank her for everything she has done for our school.
Koala Talk
Our students have been studying information reports in English so we thought it was a great time to get De Castle to come and talk to the children about all the Koalas in the area. De keeps us updated on what is happening with the Koalas around the school. The students were so engaged as she named all the Koalas, their joeys and how she monitors them.

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence
Today we joined the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. At our school, we're committed to fostering a nurturing and respectful community. This day reminds us to stand united against bullying, emphasising kindness and understanding. Students watched informative videos and did classroom activities on the theme of ‘growing connections’ as a way of prevention and empowering our students to be compassionate leaders and encourage open conversations about bullying prevention. Thanks to Kindergarten for a beautiful prayer presentation reflecting this theme. Let's continue to work hand in hand to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all our children.
Staff Learning
This week all teaching staff did extra hours on Wednesday evening learning the new 3-6 syllabus for English. On Thursday evening, five teachers also attended an Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education conference in Port Macquarie. We are proud of our staff being at the forefront of the latest advancements and changes in education to bring the best contemporary learning to our classrooms.

Best wishes from the leadership team

Diocesan Athletics
Congratulations to Summer, Dean, Chase, Bella and Lachlan, who represented the Hastings Zone at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival earlier this week. Making it to this level is excellent, and they all performed extremely well, with Dean and Chase both making the 100m Final. Lachlan came 3rd in U11 Boys discus, and Bella came 1st in Discus and Shot Put and 2nd in 100m, making her the Age Champion in her group.
Bella and Lachlan will now represent the Lismore Diocese at the Polding Carnival at Homebush, where they will compete against all the Catholic schools from North of the Harbour Bridge to the QLD border.
CONGRATULATIONS HARDY!
This week, Hardy Fletcher from Year 5 competed in the National Titles for Bodyboarding. He made it to the Under 14’s final on Wednesday and placed 4th! Being only 11 years old, Hardy was surfing against boys much older than him. This is an amazing achievement, and we are so proud of him!
Newcombe ball
Congratulations to this week's Newcombe Ball champions - Team 1 and runner-up Team 3.

Soccer & Netball Gala Day Cake stall Thursday 31St Aug
Last year the P and F committee held a cake stall during the Soccer and Netball Gala day, which raised over $350.
After the success of last year, we will once again hold a cake stall during the event.
We are asking our school families to support the cake stall by bringing in any bakes goods on Thursday, 31st Aug. They don’t have to be home-baked; any cake, slice, or biscuits will be welcomed. If possible, please supply the ingredients list.
The cakes or biscuits can be dropped directly down to Laurieton Oval or the school office morning before 9 am.
Thank you for all your support.
As children explore the online world, they may encounter inappropriate content that can be harmful and disturbing. This content can have emotional consequences, causing nightmares or changes in behaviour, especially if it's vivid.
Inappropriate content includes prohibited or offensive material that is unsuitable for children's age and developmental stage. It can be accessed inadvertently through search engines, hyperlinks, pop-ups, junk mail, online games, or referrals from others.
Prevention
- Talk openly and regularly about online behaviour.
- Let them know they should come to you or a teacher if they encounter online problems or see something wrong, emphasising that they won't get in trouble for seeking help.
- Avoid device threats that may discourage open communication. Children may fear losing their devices, causing them to keep online problems hidden.
- Monitor the content your child accesses online, including video games and streaming services. Utilise parental controls for streaming platforms.
- Ensure children access online content in common areas like the lounge room, allowing for better supervision and reducing the risk of exposure to inappropriate content.
Talk About It
Start conversations with your child about their online experiences:
- Ask if they've ever seen something that made them feel uncomfortable, worried or upset.
- Discuss how to handle negative situations online and ensure their safety.
- Explore their knowledge of online safety and why it's important not to share inappropriate content with peers.
Take Action
If your child views inappropriate content:
- Determine if it was accidental or deliberate, and have an open conversation about their motives.
- Stay calm, listen to their feelings, and offer emotional support as needed.
- Seek advice from resources like NSW Parentline (1300 1300 52) if necessary.
Resources to use with your child
- esafety kids: I saw something online I did not like.
- Younger children watch: Swoosh and Glide and Rule Number 5 story time video
- Hard to have conversations. Tips for parents.
- ThinkUKnow I’m worried my child might see something inappropriate online

Science Week in Kindergarten
Science week! In Kinder, we had an afternoon of experiments to celebrate science week. We made lava lamps and slime, and we saw what happens when you put milk, detergent and food colouring together. It was a very fun science-filled afternoon.
