Leadership Report

Mother’s Day

Our Mother's Day Liturgy was a beautiful ceremony that brought together students, staff, and families to honour and appreciate the incredible women in our children's lives. The event was a touching tribute to mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures, reflecting the love and gratitude our students hold for them.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who was able to attend and participate in the celebration. Your presence made the day even more special and memorable for all involved. We would also like to acknowledge our Kindergarten and Year 6 teams for leading a beautiful Liturgy, and are grateful to the Mother's Day committee—Erin Elliott, Nicole Quadir and Emma Hockham—for their dedication and hard work in organising the special gift fundraiser on schoolzine and the delicious morning tea. A very special thank you to Ashley Sargeson from Touch Wood Flowers who provided over 100 flower stems for our mothers.

As we reflect on the success of our Mother's Day celebrations, we are reminded of the strong, supportive community we have at St Joseph’s. We wish a very Happy Mother's Day to all mothers, grandmothers, mother figures, and special women in the lives of our children. May your day be filled with love, joy, and the warmth of family.

Stage 2 Creative Arts Excursion

We are so fortunate to be able to provide all of our students with the opportunity to experience some professional theatre and visual arts this year. The experience for years 3 and 4 was on today at The Glasshouse, Port Macquarie. The show was titled “The Princess, the Pea and the Great Escapee” which was a live theatre performance featuring acting, live music and theatrical techniques to tell the fractured fairytale story.

Following the theatre show, students went on a tour of the Art Gallery where they focused on a Textile exhibition and completed some Art appreciation activities. Viewing live theatre and appreciating professional artworks enriches students' authentic learning in Creative Arts and literacy, as well as inspiring wellbeing, enjoyment and an appreciation for the Arts. We were very proud of how inquisitive and enthusiastic all our students were throughout the excursion.

Zone Cross Country

Congratulations to our school cross country team, which competed at the Zone Cross Country this week. A special thank you to our sports co-ordinator, Natalie Hurrell, for all her work behind the scenes, and to all our staff and parents who supported the students on the day.

Congratulations to the following students who have progressed to the Diocesan carnival in 2 weeks.

  • EJ – 7th place
  • Max – 5th place
  • Dean – 6th place
  • Gideon – 4th place

Police Talks

As part of our commitment to student safety and well-being, students engage in a range of activities throughout the year. This week, we welcomed Constable Wendy Hudson and Constable Tim Preston to talk with our young people about a range of topics appropriate to their developmental age. Infants spoke about safe people in their lives and how to stay safe. Stage 2 continued this theme and approached topics like Cyber Safety and Bullying, and Stage 3 delved into a wide range of topics in readiness for high school. More information that was sent to stage 3 families on the stage 3 topics can be found here. LINK

Thank you to Wendy and Tim for taking the time to talk to our students.

Tell Them From Me Survey

In the coming weeks, we will invite students, teachers, and parents to provide feedback on their experience with our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process, and over the last few years, the responses have helped us to affirm the work we do, as well as improve and refine many areas of our school.

We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St Joseph’s Laurieton. The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please keep an eye out for the link.

Our aim is to have at least 60 families complete the survey. If we reach that target we will have a reward for all the students.

Students will complete the survey in week 4. If you would like your child in years 4-6 to opt out of this survey, please contact the office or complete the form sent home.

Best wishes from the leadership team
