Leadership Report

We were thankful to return to a week of normalcy, full of learning! We extend our compassion to the surrounding communities recovering from the floods and recent weather events.

To start our busy week, we kicked off our Number Fluency Program across all classes (see article below) and Year 6 welcomed Mrs Catherine Waights from Charles Sturt University, who was doing some practical observation and teaching alongside Mrs Toole.

We then acknowledged and recognised National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week for our Indigenous people. Aunty Miranda, our new Aboriginal Education Worker, led a beautiful form of spiritual Indigenous Yoga, Wayapa, for all students during a special assembly, and we also had a prayer focus on this during the week. Today we also welcomed Ms Tracey, our second Aboriginal Education Worker, who will be with us each Friday.

On Thursday, Dean, Max, and Gideon proudly compete at the Diocesan Cross Country Carnival in Woolgoolga. We were so glad this event could proceed with all the sporting cancellations we have had due to weather this term.

Today we welcomed members of the Camden Haven Surf Life Saving Club to talk to students about Beach Safety. The volunteers of the Camden Haven SLSC do an amazing job in our community, and we thank them for giving up their time to continue this good work in our school.
Sacrament Reflection Night

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Sacrament Reflection Night was postponed this week. It will now be held in the school hall on Wednesday, 4th June from 5-6 pm.

Family Mass

Many of our parents have taken up the Parent Assembly opportunity in Coffs Harbour on Saturday, 14th June, so we have decided to postpone our Family Mass to Saturday, 2nd August. A compass event will come home next week. At this Mass, the choir will sing and students will serve in other ways. After Mass, we will gather in the Parish Hall for children’s faith activities and a shared meal.

The Number Fluency Program

The Number Fluency Program is a structured, research-based program by Dr Ange Rogers from the Australian Numeracy Teachers Academy. It is designed to boost students' number confidence and mathematical fluency. Tailored for all levels from Kindergarten to Year 6, the program focuses on 20 critical number skills per year level, emphasising areas such as subitising, part-part-whole relationships, additive thinking, place value, and multiplicative thinking.

This program is implemented as a brief 10–15 minute daily session, offering a systematic approach to assess and practice these essential skills. It is designed to be flexible, allowing for multiple levels for each individual student within the class. By incorporating these daily sessions, students can develop greater confidence and proficiency in mathematics, setting a solid foundation for future learning.

Best wishes from the leadership team
